Amazon moves into spirits with Tovess brand

Online retailer Amazon has released Tovess Single Batch Crafted Dry Gin, the first expression in a new line of spirits. Tovess Single Batch Crafted Dry Gin is the retail giant’s first spirit and will be available to buy exclusively through Amazon. According to Amazon, the Tovess brand is “dedicated to curating expertly distilled spirits from around the world”. Tovess was based on a traditional London Dry gin and is made at a distillery on the outskirts of Birmingham, UK. Rémy Cointreau H1 ‘slightly below expectations’

French drinks group Rémy Cointreau saw its sales dip 0.6% to €523.9 million (US$585m) for the first half of its fiscal year due to the termination of distribution deals for a number of partner brands. In the six-month period between April and September 2019, the House of Rémy Martin saw its sales increase 5.6% to €379.6m (US$423.9m). The group said its Cognac was affected by a drop in tourism in Hong Kong and “slower than anticipated stock replenishment” from US retailers. Baileys debuts Red Velvet liqueur in US

Diageo has launched a limited edition Baileys Irish cream liqueur infused with the flavour of red velvet cake in the US. Launched in celebration of National Liqueur Day (16 October), Baileys Red Velvet has been created in partnership with the founders of US bakery Georgetown Cupcake, sisters Katherine Berman and Sophie LaMontagne. WTO formally backs US tariff on single malt Scotch

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has formally given the go ahead for the US to impose US$7.5 billion worth of tariffs on exports from the EU, including single malt Scotch whisky. On 2 October, the US government revealed its intentions to impose a 25% import tariff on EU goods, including single malt Scotch whisky, single malt whiskey from Northern Ireland, liqueurs, cordials and wine on 18 October 2019.
