Diversity of Spanish cuisine a ‘key promotional tool’ for wines

Industry body Foods and Wines from Spain in the UK plans to ramp-up food and wine pairing events as a way of showcasing ‘modern Spain,’ the public entity’s new director told the drinks business.  Fernando Muñoz said Spain’s diverse gastronomy cuisine would be a key promotional focus for wines going forward into 2020. Rhône speciliast launches three premium tiers into the UK in brand strategy revamp

Rhône specialist Cellier des Dauphins has launched new premium tiers into the UK market, as part of a new, more consumer-centric brand strategy. The company, which is the largest and most dominant wine producer in the Rhône Valley, has launched the  Reserve Côtes du Rhône range, Village, a range of wines featuring the vignerons who grew the wine’s grape on the front of the label, and a Les Cru range to the line up. Worrying about your hangover makes it worse, research suggests

A study conducted by the University of Salford has found that individuals who overly worry about the pain of a hangover can actually make their symptoms worse. Headed up by lead researcher Sam Royle, the study aimed to explore why hangovers vary depending on the person involved, and whether this was linked to how likely the individual was to worry about pain. So-called pain catastrophizing is the tendency to overly worry about the prospect of pain and the management of it. The experiment involved a total of 86 participants, all aged between 18 and 46. Adrian Bridge: ‘Election 2019 won’t solve Brexit crisis’

A senior member of the wine trade has criticised the UK government’s decision to hold a general election in December, arguing that it won’t break the Brexit deadlock. New auction record set for Scotch whisky cask

Auctioneer Bonhams says it has broken the world record for a cask of whisky, with a hogshead of 30 year-old Macallan selling for HK$4.4 million in Hong Kong. The cask, an ex-Sherry hogshead filled with spirit distilled in 1989, was part of Bonhams’ Fine and Rare Wine and Whisky sale in Hong Kong on 15th November. Its final hammer price (plus buyer’s premium) was HK$4.4m (US$572,000); apparently a new world record but just shy of the HK$4.6m pre-sale high estimate.
