Using data compiled by Wine Picker, the drinks business presents the top 15 wine regions represented on London’s wine lists, with the Old World still exerting significant influence. Wine Picker, founded by Josselin Guibert and Julien Sahut, compiles its data by uploading all of the wines from 560 of London’s major restaurants. More than 41,000 different labels are then recorded, categorised and capable of being analysed by wine region or wine style, for example. ProWein report: Climate change will affect every level of the industry

A recent survey by Geisenheim commissioned by ProWein has found that, after health policy challenges and obstacles to global trade, climate change is the biggest long-term concern for the wine industry and one with potentially extreme consequences. Obituary: Rebecca Stone

Rebecca Stone, travel retail account manager at Bibendum, passed away late last week of cancer aged just 31. Rebecca had worked in the wine industry for nearly all of her professional life and had been at Bibendum for five years. Described by the agency as a “rising star of the wine trade,” she was, “well loved by friends, family, producers and the wine trade alike who have paid tribute to her generous spirit and fantastic sense of humour.” She is survived by her husband, Chris and parents, Sue Cullinan and Alan Cowell. The UK’s first wine canning line goes live

The UK’s first wine canning line has gone live, after Greencroft Bottling, the sister company to Lanchester Wines, started operations at its plant in County Durham. The contract wine packer has invested more than over £2 million in the equipment, which manufactures 200ml and 250ml slimline cans. It hopes to boost production from 100 million litres in 2018 to between 300 – 400 million litres by early 2020. The new line can fill around 17,000 cans per hour, the company said. Seafood restaurant recycles leftover oyster shells to flavour gin

London seafood specialist Wright Brothers has jumped on the flavoured gin train and launched a spirit distilled with oyster shells, Amalfi lemon and kelp seaweed. Produced with partners The Ginstitute Distillery of West London, the  gin has has been designed to complement Wright Brothers’ menu of oysters, shellfish and fish. It is a savoury gin with high mineral notes and a pink pepper finish. UK beer trademarks reach record high

The number of beer names trademarked in the UK reached a record high last year, as the beer market becomes increasingly diverse. Beer trademarks have almost doubled in five years.
