Johnnie Walker to debut Ice and Fire whiskies

Diageo’s blended Scotch whisky brand Johnnie Walker is set to launch two limited edition Game of Thrones-themed expressions, called A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire. Available to pre-order in the US, the new blended Scotch whiskies will launch in the US this August and globally in October. Johnnie Walker’s Twitter account teased the release of A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire whiskies yesterday with a short video. Global Irish whiskey sales soar 300% in 10 years

Worldwide sales of Irish whiskey have risen by more than 300% in the last 10 years, the Department for International Trade (DIT) has reported. Northern Ireland whiskey distilleries in particular have been praised for helping to boost the growth of Irish whiskey, which is forecast to double to 12 million nine-litre cases by 2020, according to the Irish Whiskey Association. The release of Lafite and second wine Carruades de Lafite represent the “most obvious buys of the campaign” though getting hold of some might be hard. Lafite is the last of the first growths to release en primeur and seems to have struck the pricing nail dead on. UK retail giant Tesco has reported weak growth in the first quarter the year that lags behind its promising performance in the full financial year. A US investment fund that owns a stake in Pernod Ricard and UK bookstore Waterstones has emerged as a new entrant in the race to bid for Majestic. Ethical consumerism has gone from niche to mainstream, a new report has stated, as the number of international consumers looking for Fair Trade wine also rises nearly 10% in a year. Diageo has kicked off production at its Roe & Co distillery in Dublin, marking another stage in the capital’s Irish whiskey renaissance. The UK drinks group announced its return to the Irish whiskey category in 2017 with the launch of the Roe & Co brand. Scottish producer Glenrinnes Distillery has released two organic spirits: Eight Lands Organic Speyside Gin and Eight Lands Organic Speyside Vodka.
